UPDATE 9/20/14: On the evening of Sept. 18th, the Casper Star Tribune formally announced that they will include all gubernatorial candidates who will be on the ballot in the Oct. 9th debate at Casper College. This is because of grassroots activism! The people were heard! KCWY has since backed out of the debate. You can read about the Casper Star Tribune’s change of heart here.
Last night (Sept. 17, 2014) the Casper College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to include ALL (gubernatorial) candidates who qualified to be on the Wyoming general election ballot in the Oct. 9th debate to be held at Casper College, sponsored by the Casper Star Tribune and KCWY News 13.
Citing Casper College’s official position, President of the college, Charles Robertson said that “In the interest of election transparency, honesty, community service and remaining open all [gubernatorial] candidates who qualified to be on the ballot should be included in the Oct. 9th debate.”
President Robertson then stated that Casper College’s position would be shared with the Casper Star Tribune and KCWY, and the two media outlets would either agree to include all candidates in the Oct. 9th debate, or they will have to find an alternative venue.
Please be sure to e-mail the Casper College Board of Trustees and thank them for supporting and defending your right to be an informed voter, and for all candidates who are on the ballot to have an opportunity to participate in any debate held for the office they are running for.
